Chef Brian Coates

Chef Brian Coates is a native of Newport News, Virginia. While studying architecture at Virginia Tech, he worked as a short order cook and fell in love with the profession. Deciding to pursue a culinary career, Brian moved to Richmond to find opportunities to learn and hone his craft. After working at several local restaurants, he moved on to the Country Club of Virginia, where he worked his way up to Chef of St. Andrew’s Dining Room. From there he became executive chef of Complete Catering, Crown Plaza West, Marriot West, and Groovin’ Gourmets. After branching out on his own with Simmer Events and Catering, he joined forces with Ellie Basch and Jannequin Bennet at Everyday Gourmet.
