What to Expect
At The Doorways, you can expect a relaxing, home-like setting with quality service and many convenient amenities to make your stay a pleasant one.
Rest Well
Most rooms have two double beds, and all have a private bath with telephone and TV.
Enjoy the Entertainment
A big-screen TV is located on the 1st Floor’s TV Lounge just off the dining room. Puzzles and games are also available. Keep an eye out for special activities with volunteer groups!
Stay in Touch
Each room is set up to make incoming and outgoing calls, room-to-room calls and to receive voice mail. For our long-term guests, you may send and receive all of your regular mail at the front desk. There is also a single-computer business center located across from the Volunteer Workroom on the 1st floor. Free WiFi is available throughout the building.
Lighten Your Load
You’ll find free, 24-hour laundry facilities located on the 2nd Floor. Detergents, irons, and other laundry supplies are provided at no charge. Room linens can be exchanged on the 2nd Floor during certain linen exchange hours.
Cook Up a Little Comfort
Four fully equipped kitchens are open for use and all guests have 24/7 access to the donated frozen foods and pantry items to make your own “home-cooked” meals. On some nights, you may be treated to a prepared meal by one of our many volunteer groups!
Recharge Your Mind & Body
Other amenities include our comprehensive library, fitness room, quiet spaces, and on-site social workers (office next to the library) Monday-Thursday evenings.
Transportation For Care
If you are receiving care at VCU Health, there is a free hospital shuttle provided by the hospital each day.
Additionally, if you need transportation outside of regular shuttle hours, there is an after-hours transportation service that is available from 5 PM until 8 AM.
You can call this service directly from The Doorways or the hospital to arrange your pick-up.

Prefer a personal tour from staff? Contact us at info@thedoorways.org at least two days in advance and we will be happy to schedule a time with you!
Length of Stay
If you need to stay with us longer than originally planned, we understand! Health care plans often change, and your medical team can simply issue you a new referral for an extension of your original planned stay.
